Is it at all posible to play ags games on an iPhone? If so could we play any game, or would code have to be writen specificly for the game?

Thanks

Since the iphone runson macOS, you'd need to be able to run ags-games on a mac. it would then be not too difficult to create a runtime environment for the iphone, much.like wtherr already is such an environment for linux. I myself would prefer if such efforts would be directed toward windoze mobile since I have recently ordered an HTC-phone with said os. although having ags games available to mac users would be real nice toward them, but then again, Miez also.has a "normal pc". so he can play games if he wants to.

If anything, I'd propose an Android port. It's getting so popular that there even are Net- and Notebooks running on Android nowadays. Plus, the underlying kernel is a linux one, so it shouldn't be too hard (hopefully). I do think there was a Mac port for AGS already, though.

(Not only does Windows Mobile suck, but you can't run around making a port for every OS used by 1 or 2 people. BTW, will you throw away your regular IBM PC once your HTC phone has arrived? Because if so, the last line of your post would apply to you, too.)

There is some potential for AGS games to be ported to the iPhone or iPod Touch, but it is still theoretical at the moment (and rather convoluted).  There's a blog post about it here.

Caveats:
1)  Currently only one AGS game converted to XAGE is playable to completion (working on the rest).
2)  I'm lacking the necessary hardware to try it out (ZuneHD, Mac Mini).
3)  From memory, there are some license issues surrouding MonoTouch & XnaTouch

Do you need a PowerPC mini? Because OSX itself runs in VMWare.

I have a mac and i can run AGS! It's through some horrible 'crossover games' program but 2.72 works okay (and most games).

Although running on the iPhone seems like a lot of effort.

From what I understand, iPhone development needs to be on an Intel-based Mac (the Mac Mini appears to be the lowest barrier to entry).  Also, Apple's licensing forbids virtualisation so it's a bit of a non-starter until I can get my hands on some actual hardware.

I've often wondered if it wouldn't be better to have AGS games be supported by ScummVM. This would solve the platform problem, since ScummVM is available for every machine under the sun, including the iPhone. But I guess the biggest problem would be the plugins...

Bah, screw that. You can create a new partition on a windows pc and make it into a 'Hackintosh'

I don't pretend to have all the answers but I do have all the requests, more adventure games on the ipod touch would be great thinking of getting the monkey island remake the only problem is, I played it for the first time quite recently (curse you h key providing me hints because I was too lazy to think for myself)

While we're on the subject does anyone know of any other adventure games on the iphone/ipod touch?

Given all my development's done on a netbook with a small HD and no DVD drive, I'm guessing that going down the Hackintosh route would result in one big, sticky mess.

You could always have a Windows PC running the game and VNC and then connect to the PC via a VNC viewer app.

Meanwhile, SSH secretly plans to develop and adventure game that runs under Android...
