Updated July 13, 2010
Joshua Nuernberger presents...

IGF 2010 Student Showcase Winner
Gemini Rue
(formerly Boryokudan Rue)

AND: Featured at IndieCade 2010 @ E3

  • Gemini Rue is a neo-noir, full length point ‘n click adventure game, encompassing a dual narrative. It follows the story of Azriel Odin, an ex-assassin, trying to bring down the notorious crime group, the Boryokudan, and the story of Delta-Six, an amnesiac patient who must escape his imprisonment before he loses his identity. Gemini Rue features traditional adventure game elements, such as puzzle-solving, dialog systems, and more, but also incorporates more unorthodox features, including an action system, and an investigations system. Gemini Rue was a winner of the Student Showcase Award in the 2010 Independent Games Festival chosen from more over 190 entries.

Narrative 1: You play as Azriel Odin, en route to meet a 'defector' from planet Barracus.

Narrative 2: You play as Delta-Six, a man who is held captive in a facility, and must survive in order to find out what is going on. (Cliche? Of course!)

Features
  • A traditional verb box point 'n click interface
  • The Kick Verb!
  • Two narratives interweaved into one.
  • An intuitive notes and names system for investigations
  • A fine-tuned action system, fair to both action and non-action gamers.

Gemini Rue is a full-length game spanning over 80 rooms with hand-painted backgrounds, dozens of characters with animation, a neo-noir soundtrack by Nathan Allen Pinard, and featuring 4-8 hours of gameplay. The game was developed over the course of nearly two years with additional help by Nathan Allen Pinard on music.

The game will be released commercially, although an official release date and price has yet to be decided!

February 5, 2009
- New screenshot + updated old screenshots
- Added/modified game info a bit
- Changed classic Lucas Arts font
- Release date: I'm not going to give one for fear of it biting me back, but I will say that a large majority of the work is done. The game has been in production for just over a year now, and things have been somewhat on schedule for the most part. There is a 90% chance it will be completed at the MOST within a year.

Current team includes myself, and Nathan Allen Pinard on music. I'm trying to remain somewhat reclusive about the game's story and features, and leave that for a surprise when the game is released. The game has been in production for about eight months now, but I won't announce any tentative release dates yet.

Those graphics are beyond beautiful, and you've said little enough about the plot that I'm well intrigued Smiley Definitely a game to watch!

(Although I have to ask why people are leaving guns lying about in a facility meant for holding prisoners Wink )

Always loved JBurger's stuff, ever since I saw a post of his with Anime Char's in it awhile back,
Then there was his wizard sprite, during one of the contests, May was it?
Needless to say, I'm a fan...
There I admitted it!

Knowing Nathan better than JBurger I can only know that it's going to be a GREAT game!

Knowing Vince much better than Nathan (Vince and JBurger seem to be connected at some points and Vince hosted le croix paix a while back), I know my trust for JBurger won't be misplaced!

Looking at the scrennies it makes me drool!

JBurger, such work, I find, should be commercial. If not maybe a paypal account so I could donate a few $?

Finally, no matter how much I love the art and care for you two guys, the classic font, in the text, seems quite bad to me.

[/critics lounge]

looking forward to this game! Smiley and the thread is bookmarked!

Voice acting: I would like to help you with voice acting in German; if you can stand it, I can act on English, too. I'm a baritone.Backgrounds: If it's simple backgrounds at low-res, I could be helpful.Translating: If it's from English -> German, then I'm your man. I'm studying Latin, so if it's not too hard, I could do that, too.

Looks very nice! I'd like to play it.

I would suggest changing the font, I think it lets down the otherwise nice visuals.

I really don't want you to give away anything, but I've got a question about the title of the game: Boryokudan, as I understand it, is the Japanese term to describe organized crime. Is "rue" also a Japanese word, or is it the French "rue", meaning "street"?

I really like the title, it is very original.

Thanks. I was worried about the title since I just came up with it, and I hadn't even had a title for the past eight months. You are correct about the word Boryokudan (I hope, otherwise I'm wrong too). As for 'rue', this is the definition I'm using:
Quote
Repentance, regret; Pity, compassion; (transitive) To make (someone) repent of sin or regret some past action; (transitive) To make (someone) feel sorrow or pity; To repent of or regret (some past action or event); to wish a past action undone; (intransitive) To feel compassion or pity
