Internet, I am proud to introduce my second freeware adventure game, "Nanobots"!

Download it here! (rar)
Or here! (zip)

Design, art, and writing by Erin "The Ivy" Robinson
Scripting by Vince Twelve
Music by Chris "Scorposer" Moorson

The story:

Groovy Greg set out to make robots that could love. He created six nanobots: Hotbot, Brainbot, Tallbot, Audbot, Strongbot, and Chembot. Each was designed with one special ability, enabling them to work together as a team to overcome challenges. There was only one problem: the nanobots hated each other.

Now, with the evil Professor Killfun threatening to give him a failing grade, Groovy Greg has almost given up on his experiment. Little does he know that his beloved bots are about to meet an even bigger challenge than they had been programmed for...

"Nanobots" is a classic-style point and click adventure game that lets you control the six different robots as they race to save themselves from being turned into scrap metal. Can they make use of their surroundings, fashion an escape plan, and avoid coming face-to-fist with Professor Killfun? Only if they give peace a chance.

I'm so thrilled to finally be done with this, and that never would have happened without the countless hours that the team put in. Vince was a scripting powerhouse throughout the whole project, and did some things with AGS that I didn't know were possible. Chris kindly composed another catchy and original soundtrack, including a bunch of last-minute extra tracks for the moments of interest. And my beta testers, Adventuress, JBurger, voh, and Sheepisher, were patient enough to put up with at least four rounds of testing in order to find all the lurking bugs. Thanks everyone. Smiley

I'm eager to hear what you think of it. There's one catch though...I'm about to disappear from the grid for about four days (Canada Day Cheesy). Also, Vince is going to be away for the next week or so. So please don't get upset if we don't respond to your posts right away. Come Tuesday, I'll be back to personally reply to everyone.

Hope you like it, lovelies!

P.S. If you get stuck, Audbot is pretty good at giving hints.

Does AGS work with Vista Home Basic?

Will edit once I find out!

Still, Erin, this is very very exciting! Extremely I'd say! Smiley

Voice acting: I would like to help you with voice acting in German; if you can stand it, I can act on English, too. I'm a baritone.Backgrounds: If it's simple backgrounds at low-res, I could be helpful.Translating: If it's from English -> German, then I'm your man. I'm studying Latin, so if it's not too hard, I could do that, too.

Wow, great! I've waited for this game.

@Nikolas: It should work on Vista Basic.

SIX playable characters at once? This must be a record, I'm very curious what kind of puzzles you got in store for us.

Getting it now...

Nikolas: Yes, it does work on Windows Vista Home Basic. I'm playing it on that OS right now.

I think I've noticed a bit of a glitch. In normal view, the broken clock on the back shelf has its hands pointing at 2, 5, and 7. But in Brainbot's  analyze view, the hands are pointing at 3, 6, and 8.

And...I'm stuck. Spoiler below, select the area to read the text
I can't figure out how to turn the solution in the beaker blue to pour on the postcard. So far, I've only managed to get purple (unmixed) and brown (mixed). I am assuming the code for the computer is on the postcard since the numbers on the clock don't work (from both normal view and Brainbot's analyze view). I'm also not sure what to do with the gumball other than bounce them off the picture frame and the cell phone. Audbot's absolutely no help.

Here's a quick tip that might shed some light on your problem: Spoiler below, select the area to read the text
Pour the blue solution directly from the test tube onto the postcard.  For future reference, you can use chembot + an empty test tube on whatever solution is in the beaker to collect some.

I know that. What I don't know is Spoiler below, select the area to read the text
How to make the blue solution in the first place.

Use the blue solution that initially fills the tube. (i.e. from the computer fill-up)

Unless there's a bug in the game that I didn't know about, you got the code to the computer right by entering the correct combo from the clock (see the computer's wallpaper for more of a hint on that!).  When you did so, instead of flashing "Incorrect password" it flashed "Loading Chem Drop" and then filled the test tubes along the back wall with red, blue, and yellow chemicals.

Now, if I may be a little bossy, let's take the hints and tips conversation to the hints and tips board and leave this one for feedback!  Thanks!   Grin

That was great!  Well worth the wait.

There were a couple of bugs where the bots walked on areas that weren't walkable areas, but it was a minor thing in an otherwise fantastic little game!

I want my own set of Nanobots now.

Yeah, there are a few ways to make the bots walk through the items in the room, but this is due to it being really difficult in AGS to make movable objects make realistic holes in the walkable areas.  You should see the ridiculous amount of code it took to make it work as well as it does!

Taken from one of my previous posts:

I think I've noticed a bit of a glitch. In normal view, the broken clock on the back shelf has its hands pointing at 2, 5, and 7. But in Brainbot's  analyze view, the hands are pointing at 3, 6, and 8.

I've tried all combinations of both these sets of numbers. Am i missing something?

EDIT: Two minutes later.....Now that's weird o_O. I could've sworn that combo didn't work the first time I did it.

Better add hide tags to that last post, just to make sure!  Wink

Spoiler below, select the area to read the text
The two different views having the hands at different positions isn't exactly a bug, I think Ivy just wanted to avoid the player from seeing them and guessing the combo before gaining access to the upper shelf.  However, you're right, it's a bit clumsy at best, and a bit confusing at worst.  Perhaps there should have just been some shine on the glass preventing you from seeing the hands on the zoomed out view.

As for the combo, you don't have to try out all the combinations of the three numbers.  There's something out there that tells you the proper order.  I hinted at it before: check out the computer's desktop wallpaper!
