AGS Panel review for this game:
The AGS Review Panel has left a comment about this game:
Longer and with more polish than its predecessors, Case 5 sees Ben Jordan in Japan with friends from Case 4. Another high point in the series, even better than Case 3. Still a bit short on gameplay but it should provide ample entertainment for fans of the series.

BJ5 was a very entertaining game, although it has some rough edges. The plot was a bit too straightforward for my taste. The restaurant was introduced too early and the hints the cook gave were a bit too clear. Also it was a bit tiresome to revisit all locations again on the following day (which was already a problem with GK1).

But don't let me trick you in believing this game is anything less than great, thats not the case.
Go play it. Now.

Pretty awesome, actually. The environments and puzzles are getting easier. ONE obscure puzzle and a somewhat annoying trivia part, but overall an excellent addition to the series.

Overall programming quality continues to rise. Graphics are very nice with some great outside shots. However, like other reviewers noted, some characters didn't look Japanese and the map could've been more artistic. I enjoyed the story and I like the way each ben jordan story builds upon the previous. Music was great and captured the Japanese flavor. Overall a great effort

Case 5 has a great title and swept me up quickly, though I wished it could've gone on for longer!
Pros: Awesome atmosphere and music, characters well done, ending and beginning were good.
Cons: Too much wandering back and forth between places, some plot points a little too obvious.

It's a ben jordan game, of course it was good!
my constructive criticism:
Some of the Asians didn't look Asian, and Ben Jordan could step on the sleeping mats with his shoes on, I kept thinking how dirty they were getting!

This is one of the best games in the BJ-series i have played so far. The story, while perhaps a little uninspired, is engaging and exciting and made you want to keep on playing. The puzzles are very easy but logical and well integrated in the game. There was never any doubt for me as what to do next. The graphics are also, as always, well drawn and the dialouge amusing and well thought-out.
This is an excellent game to play if you want something that,s not to long.
Short but sweet.;)

What let the game down was not immersion or storyline but the graphics. The map was one I felt looked scruffy. New portraits make it seem more professional though Ben’s himself looks a little odd.
On the plus side it has a good score of music not present in the immediate precursor game.
The humour had made up for it in my opinion.

After Horror at Number 50, the disappointing fourth installment of the Ben Jordan series, Land of the Rising Dead finds Francisco Gonzalez right back at the top of his game. This is the fantastic and utterly absorbing Ben Jordan I am used to.

Everything that ruined part 4 has been revised and improved. There's no more annoying phone, an expansive range of areas to explore, gorgeously presented in smooth, cartoony graphics. The incorporation of new characters that were introduced in the previous game enhances the story a great deal. Simon is a great character and some of his interactions with Ben are priceless. Alice reintroduces the romantic subplot elelment that was first introduced in the third installment of the series but she is far more than a simple object of desire for Ben. She is presented as a hip, intelligent girl who is a great match for our hero.

The plot of this fifth Ben Jordan episode is extremely intricate and clever and allows for all sorts of great mini-adventures. There's some great comic interludes and some excellent down to earth moments such as Ben's visit to a sushi restaurant in an attempt to relax.

Land of the Rising Dead is yet another brilliant addition to the sensationally good, award-winning series and it reinstalls my faith after the slight hiccup of Horror at Number 50.

Slightly better than 4th. I like the plot and the ending. There are some nice jokes about Japan here :)

while i do have to agree with jkohen's "pseudo spoiler" about the degree of actual 'paranormal-ness', wonderfully done! i can't wait for your newest game to come out.

For me it was a letdown. Obviosly a lot of effort was put into the game, but it felt somehow dry and unballenced. The story wasn't interesting nor original, the puzzles were easy and very few, the characters were uninteresting and the game felt like a cheap rip-off (Gabriel Knight 1, anyone?). The graphics and music were very well done, but it's not enough for a good adventure game..

I played all 5 games (unfortunately). I am new to AGS games and after playing Prodigal, Cedric and the Revolution, Principles of Evil, Spooks and Apprentice it seemed a popular choice to play the BJ series (by observing the responses and fame).

However I was badly disappointed. This game wasn't worth mentioning next to those games, in fact it's an average AGS game from about the 100 I've played. Badly painted backgrounds with zero-percent atmosphere made the game feel dull. Walking around trying to find something new isn't a puzzle. This game is over glorified, and that's coming from someone who likes GK. In fact I was surprised to see Ben Jordan 4 win the game of the year next to the competition it had.

Maybe there is something I'm missing? Who is grundislav really? Someone very important, though it wasn't that bad, the music was impressive.

And this is IMHO.

Maybe you could spend more time on one game and put effort into it than trying to blurt out a number of games instead. Rather quality than quantity.

I'm surprised this game has two fangames, maybe people trying to get in with the crowd or something?

God this game was awsome! This game series just get's better and better, awsome job! The Snailholm refrences/dreams freaked me out a little, I still wonder if there was any connection.

Great game!! The puzzles were at a perfect level, and the storyline was quite intriguing. The only thing: I missed some of the actual paranormal activity, but other than that small detail, amazing game!! Keep it up!

Excellent game! I have played the entire series so far and I have enjoyed them all.

Very good graphics, solid puzzles, pleasant music, more than one ending. In short, everything we have been expecting from the Ben Jordan series.

*pseudo spoiler below*

The only thing missing from previous installments are the actual paranormal phenomena.

A very well-made game. It\'s a shame though about the bug regarding the fingerprints, which means you aren\'t able to proceed and have to restart.

I'm so in love with the Ben Jordan series!!! A wonderful game with awesome graphics and a intersting story with challenging puzzles.
