Best Music 2006 | There's really no better way to spend a day in the Land of the Dead than at the Carnage-Val...there are rides, games, and a veritable sideshow of quirky employees. However, for one little ghoul named Mortia, things are about to take a dive out of the ordinary. After a smooth-talking skeleton challenges her to a game of darts, she wins the most unbelievable prize she's ever laid eyes on: a live goldfish!
A moment later the skeleton has fled, leaving Mortia with the task of finding her fish Spooks someplace safe to be "alive." If she doesn't help her little Spooks, and soon, he may die.
Apparently, this is rather unpleasant.

Lack of a label has made this game harder than it should be. But generally, i liked the game and experience that i had during playing.

The puzzles were good, I admit I cheated on the merry go round puzzle, but all the others were just right.
Thanks again!

The dialogue was very original and hilarious. My only criticism is that the puzzles may have been just a tiny bit too easy at times.
Posted by ladymeba on 2008-01-06 at 14:31 (IP logged): A lovely game - the use of colour really stood out. The puzzles were interesting and the gameplay smooth.
Thankyou so much for this - A lovely way to spend a few hours :)

All puzzles are pretty much logical and the characters are extremely well done. I was just stunned at how gorgeous and professional this game was. Quite Tim Burton/Roman Dirge-esque.
Posted by Optimus on 2007-09-25 at 23:33 (IP logged): Kinda short and easy to solve. Wonderful concept, great finale.

Posted by Viskosity on 2007-06-07 at 06:21 (IP logged): I just played the game through, and it's quite a slick production indeed! Presented mainly in greyscale with color used to convey a certain transition that I won't give away here, this was a highly enjoyable game. The puzzles were fairly easy, and new options open up as you play, making the game far more entertaining than mind-boggling, but this doesn't work against it. I think if the game had been saddled with mind-bending puzzles it would have served to stifle the cute, stylish presentation somewhat. All in all, a positive experience I could recomment to anyone who doesn't mind a healthy dose of cuteness.
Ultimately, this game centering around the dead is an endorsement of the joys of living.

It was a great game, I have to say. Very unique. The music was great to listen to, and the puzzles were well made. Some of them were a bit challenging but with a lot of thought and looking around you can figure it out. Looking forward to the sequel.
Posted by Michael Beck on 2007-02-26 at 04:20 (IP logged): Very nice game! The puzzles were hard enough to make me think sometimes, but not so hard that I ever had to give up in frustration. Very nice graphics, and the author's 'cameo' at the end added just the right touch.
Posted by CapCase on 2007-01-27 at 06:14 (IP logged): Fantastic game! Play it!
This is my favorite AGS game. The graphics are very good. The humor is great. The story is very good. The characters (most of them) are fantastic. Especially Mortia, the player character. She's sassy but likable. I really cared what happened to her. The goldfish Spooks was rather boring, as goldfish tend to be, but I really cared what happened to him also. Probably because Mortia is so concerned about his well-being. I didn't like the Fallen Angel at first but she surprised me by being one of my favorite characters in the game. It seems she was just a bit grumpy at the beginning. And I would click on the demon at the gate every time I saw him, after Mortia gives him something that is important to him, just to read what he says as, even though it doesn't change at that point, I found it laughing out loud hilarious. At the end I realized that Mortia reminded me of my niece. Wonderful game.

Posted by Sheepisher on 2006-05-09 at 01:29 (IP logged): This is one of the best AGS games out there!
The story is original, compelling and well-told. The dialogue with the many fascinating characters is funny and involving, and the graphics have the perfect lo-res quality and charm of early Lucasarts titles.
Some people might find the puzzle structure a little too formulaic in places, but this never detracts from your absorption into the game's creepy, kooky world and Mortia's quest to save her goldfish.
An outstanding debut. Play this game, and keep an eye out for further titles from The Ivy!

Posted by jkohen on 2006-02-17 at 20:53 (IP logged): This lovely game deserves a lot of attention. The graphics are neat and charming, the color concept is interesting, the music is captivating and obviously tailor made for this game, and the writing is pretty good, too!
Now, where this game falls behind in my opinion, is in the puzzles department. The puzzles are pretty obvious and easy, and the hints are very generous. Many of the puzzle scenarios seem a bit too forced, but in the end, they don't deter much from the great art.
It's easy to tell that the author had a passion for the graphics, and that's something that we players can share and enjoy. The characters are loveable, and most of them would fit greatly as guest appearances in other games. I was left with the desire to know a lot more about the "world" the games begins at and its society.
Posted by Totoro on 2006-02-15 at 18:04 (IP logged): I just love that little Mortia. She and all the other characters living in the world of the dead are so unique, I could even imagine them being part of a succesful cartoon-series or something like that. The dialogues are excellently written, the music is great too. Wonderful game!
