I enjoyed this second installment of the Melrin saga but I felt it was far less acomplished than its predecessor. I was not absorbed into Melrin's world this time around, I was merely a spectator.

On the plus side, the graphics have been improved into a more lush, cartoony look and the game has the same easy going, relaxed charm as the first one. Sadly, however, the game is far shorter and seems a little rushed out. There were very few locations once I got onto the island of portals and again there were some nonsensical moments where objects appeared from nowhere in places where they weren't before.

The game has a new feature, Melrin's spell book. I liked this idea, although it did mean I missed out on the element of surprise that I enjoyed when discovering magical spheres in the first game. Basically, this time round Melrin has a list of spells to begin with and has to collect the ingredients to make them work. With so many ingredients to remember this new feature kept me on my toes throughout.

I guess one of the main problems I had with Melrin 2 is that I was more constricted in my exploring. In the first game the kingdom was wide open to me and I could explore at my own pleasure. This time round there are rigidly set paths that you must stick to.

All in all, I enjoyed Melrin 2 and had this been the first Melrin game I probably would have praised it more. Sadly, Melrin 1 set the bar too high and in comparison Melrin 2 suffers greatly.

Great Game. Good story telling and puzzles. On to No. 3 of Melrin.

Great game! A bit shorter then the first one but with better puzzles. I loved the whole spell creation thingy and the riddles you have to solve to know which spell you need to create at any one time. The graphics are excellent. Very good job!
