Player rating: 78% | My name is Thalia James. For two decades, I've been a member of the Earth Anti-Encroachment League, an organization dedicated to preventing unlawful exploitation of planetary systems. It's a pretty unexciting job, and up until recently, I was convinced that it would always remain that way for me...but I was wrong. After a brief visit to a distant planet, my life changed in a way I never could have anticipated. Now, for the first time in years, I'm finding myself yearning for the mundane.
That was one of the summaries of the adventure game I was going to star in...before it was cancelled in the late '90s. But if you think that game characters simply curl up and die after their games get cancelled, you'd better think again.
Adventure: The Inside Job shows you a side of the genre that has only been glimpsed in the past. Journey with Thalia through a variety of locations both familiar and foreign, meet unusual people and creatures that you just might have encountered before, and discover what goes on behind the scenes of adventures games...

Am I wrong in thinking attention spans have been reduced in latter generations that the adventure game has suffered as a result.
Either way I loved playing this game. I found it very moving.
Posted by KuroShiro on 2008-11-11 at 10:31 (IP logged): Very good in many ways - superb animation, probably the best ever in AGS (for the main character in high-res at least). Very good soundtrack, and I loved going through all the locations from old games I've played.
That said it could be improved a lot, mainly in terms of puzzle design, and scope. It felt too restrictive considering the huge scope of all adventure games, and the extremely linear design of the puzzles was a bit of a turnoff for me.
Still, it was a very fun game overall and I'd love to see an expanded sequel or anything more from you. Kudos, and keep up the good work.

I felt torn what to put for graphics, since it's mostly ripped sprites, even if it's for a good reason. I did enjoy all the original animations in the game, they were very smooth and well-done! I also found it entertaining getting to be so many different resolutions. :)
The gameplay was a little unbalanced, I think...the puzzles alternated between being told exactly what to do and where to go, then solving a very simple get-the-object sort of puzzle, being pulled along automatically to the next plot point, and then suddenly obscure solutions, like the bit on the stairs at the end.
There were also a couple things I wouldn't have even known were there without reading the walkthrough, like the tar or the door in the Rex Nebular room.
The plot in general was good, I just feel that so much more could have been done with this game... I'd love to see a more in-depth sequel made someday! The exposition at the end was kind of slow and bulky, and the un-skippable dialogue in the scene with Ichabod at the very end drags and drags.
Overall, it was a good game, good plot concept, and excellent animations, and I hope we'll see Miss James again! :)
Posted by tinkerer on 2008-10-30 at 19:09 (IP logged): What a great game. A great lot of work was put into this game, especially the animations, and the attention to detail. Neat and novel characters, brilliant and novel plot idea. The whole thing was excellently balanced, too.
Chris Jones (or somebody) should put that logo "Semper Adventum Ludicrum" on his website. It's great! Thank you for making this game and promoting adventures (the GOOD kind), i really enjoyed traveling through all those adventures i've played before!
Posted by Robvalue on 2008-10-29 at 17:15 (IP logged): Awesome, one of the finest quality games you will have seen on AGS. Great story, dialogue, animations and humour. The puzzles are rather straightforward but I have no problem with that. Play this now!
